چکیده

Electron momentum spectroscopy is a tool ideally suited for the study of the energy-resolved momentum densities. Here we present new data from a high-energy EMS experiment using 50 keV incoming and 25 keV outgoing electrons. Momentum profiles have been measured from a thin aluminum film for the 2p core level and the valence band near E . The resolution of f these momentum profiles, as well as the effects of multiple scattering are discussed. It is found that the high-energy EMS experiment measures momentum densities with superior resolution and very little background.  2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

A HIGH-RESOLUTION COMPTON SCATTERING STUDY OF THE ELECTRON MOMENTUM DENSITY IN Al

We report high-resolution Compton profiles (CP’s) of Al along the three principal symmetry directions at a photon energy of 59.38 keV, together with corresponding highly accurate theoretical profiles obtained within the localdensity approximation (LDA) based band-theory framework. A good accord between theory and experiment is found with respect to the overall shapes of the CP’s, their first an...

Calculation of valence electron momentum densities using the projector augmented-wave method

We present valence electron Compton profiles calculated within the density-functional theory using the all-electron full-potential projector augmented-wave method (PAW). Our results for covalent (Si), metallic (Li, Al) and hydrogen-bonded ((H2O)2) systems agree well with experiments and computational results obtained with other band-structure and basis set schemes. The PAW basis set describes t...

Quantitative measurement of the spectral function of aluminum and lithium by electron momentum spectroscopy

We present measurements of the spectral function of aluminum and lithium using high-energy electron momentum spectroscopy. For aluminum the quasiparticle peaks show clear asymmetries and significant satellite intensity that extends over a wide region to larger binding energies. The intensity distribution is not well described by band structure calculations. These data are described only by calc...

Microstructure and Corrosion Performance of Silica Coatings on Aluminum Surface Prepared by Plasma Electrolysis Technique

Silica phases were precipitated on aluminum surface by potentiostatic plasma electrolysis technique. Aqueous sodium silicate solutions with different concentrations were used for this purpose. SEM, EDS, XRD, surface profiles and polarization curves were used to study coatings properties. The results showed that the growth of the silica containing phases on aluminum surface was promoted by incre...
